Hunter is an Ojibwe (Anishinaabe) descendant from the Lake Superior Band of Chippewa Indians in Northern Michigan. He graduated from the University of Iowa in May of 2023 with a B.A. in English and Creative Writing and a minor in Russian and Eastern European Studies. As a student, Hunter was the Vice-President of the Native American Student Association and a programming assistant at the Latino Native American Cultural Center. Hunter now serves as the Student Life Program Coordinator for the Latino Native American Cultural Center.
