UI Latinx Council Annual Retreat

Join the UI Latinx Council on April 29th as we gather virtually for our annual retreat.*

Jorge Guerra, lecturer in Latina/o/x Studies will be presenting, "Latinx & Our Learning Perseverance: Embracing Latinx History for the Self and Growing Communities" There will also be time for catching up and some giveaways!

Born and raised in South Central Los Angeles, Jorge Guerra is a child of Guatemalan immigrants who arrived to the United States during the Guatemalan Civil War. He received his B.A. in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing, and he received his M.F.A. in Fiction at the Iowa Writers' Workshop at The University of Iowa. He is currently a Lecturer for the Latina/o/x Studies Program and the Magid Center for Undergraduate Writing and the faculty advisor of the Storm Lake Scholarship. He is laboring through an epic writing project on the Guatemalan and Guatemalan immigrant and Guatemalan-American experience, spanning from the Spanish conquest of Guatemala during the 16th century to the child separation policies on the US-Mexican border under the Trump Administration in 2018. Please pray for him as he continues to work on this creative writing baby called a writing project.
