Join us as we celebrate the 50th Anniversary of African American Studies at Iowa! As part of our celebrations, we will be having two Ida Cordelia Beam Distinguished Visiting Professors as keynote speakers.

Our second speaker is Dr. Clenora Hudson-Weems, professor of English and Africana Studies at the University of Missouri. She will be giving a talk on Friday, October 29 at 6pm in Shambaugh Auditorium titled "Africana Womanism: Nobel Laureate Toni Morrison as a Model Africana Womanist Artivist for Social Justice."

Our other keynote speaker is Dr. Amilcar Shabazz, professor of history and Africana Studies in the W. E. B. Du Bois Department of Afro-American Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He will be giving a talk on Wednesday, October 27 at 6pm in Shambaugh Auditorium titled "Advancing Democracy: African Americans and the Struggle for Access and Equality in Higher Education."
