Background

In March of 2018, The University of Iowa Multicultural and International Student Support and Engagement (MISSE) held its inaugural International Women's Day Summit. The planning and implementation of the summit was led by Isabela Flores, Simona Flores, and Aralia Ramirez with the support of Tabitha Wiggins, Associate Director of MISSE. The summit is an initiative under MISSE, who has committed to bring the summit's primary source of funding and support. 

Mission

Thmission of this summit is to empower and celebrate diverse women, specifically Black, Indigenous, women of color, and to explore the dimensions of themselves.

The Iowa Women's Archives features a presentation by Dr. Jeannette Gabriel to celebrate Women's History Month. Drawing from materials in the Iowa Women's Archives, Dr. Gabriel will examine the impact of WWII refugees on Iowa's Jewish communities. Attendees may join us live at the Iowa City Public Library, Meeting Room A, or online by watching the live stream on the Iowa City Public Library's YouTube channel.
